FabLab at Five: A Growing Community Resource
Five years after its launch, the Salt Spring Public Library’s FabLab has become a vibrant hub for creativity, learning, and innovation. Supported by more than $700,000 in funding from the Wilding Foundation, the FabLab offers hands-on access to technology and STEAM programming for people of all ages.
The space now hosts regular workshops and programs including robotics, coding, digital design, and STEM class visits, with many sessions filling quickly due to high demand. In 2025 alone, the FabLab recorded 1,112 appointments and 3,639 drop-in visits, while STEAM programs welcomed more than 1,000 participants.
Community feedback highlights the FabLab as a welcoming, supportive place where participants (especially youth) can explore creativity, develop skills, and build confidence. Looking ahead, the library plans to expand programming to include more opportunities for adult creatives while continuing to grow access for the whole community.
